The Young Voices Songwriter Contest is a function of the 2015 San Diego Conscious Music Fest (SDCMF).

  1. The Young Voices Songwriter Contest (YVSC) is an online, homegrown talent contest open to young songwriters between the ages of 16 and 22 with an original song that aligns with the spirit and purpose of Conscious Music.*

  2. The Young Voices Singer/Songwriting Contest begins at 12:00 AM, August 1st., 2015 and all entries must be received by SDCMF by 11:59 PM October 25th, 2015.

  3. Contest is open to persons between the ages of 16 and 22. All genres and styles are eligible.  Contestants under the age of 18 must provide a signed parental consent form. Proof of age and a parental consent form (for contestants under the age of 18) is required for a contestant to be designated a winner and collect a prize.

  4. Each song submitted may be performed by the song’s original artist or the artist’s designee. The song can be recorded by a home audio or video recorder, smart phone or other simple recording device. Recording quality and the quality of the performance will not be considered when determining the winner. Only the artist’s lyrical content and melodic composition is taken into consideration. Home recordings, studio recordings and live recordings are acceptable and will not have a negative or positive effect on the judging of the songwriting.

  5. Please submit your entry with only the information requested. Do not include any peripheral materials with your submission. Letters of recommendation, prior awards, accomplishments, promotional materials or other items that are submitted in an attempt to influence the judges’ decision will be rejected.

  6. The original songwriter will remain sole owner of any material submitted into the contest. No songwriter's rights of the material are compromised by entering or winning the contest. By entering this contest each entrant grants the SDCMF and the YVSC the unilateral right to post or display the contestant’s image and song submission on the SDCMF website for the purpose of promoting the Music Fest and Young Voices Songwriting Contest.

  7. Each song submitted must be contestant's original work. Submissions entered into the contest that are found to violate or infringe upon another's copyrighted material will be disqualified.

  8. Songs may not exceed five (5) minutes in length. Songs may have multiple co-writers, but please designate one name only on the application. Prizes will be awarded jointly to all authors of any song; division of prizes is the responsibility of winners. Void where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

  9. Contestant may submit as many songs as he/she wishes, but each entry requires a separate entry form, lyrics, entrance fee and a link to the YouTube or SoundCloud site where the song is uploaded and managed by the songwriter. Contestants should make sure their song is written and recorded to their satisfaction before submitting their entry.

  10. No changes or revisions will be accepted once the entry is submitted. Should an artist wish to change any portion of a song that has been previously submitted, he/she must submit an additional entry into the contest including a new entry form, recording, lyric text, and entry fee. Both songs will then be judged as sole and separate entries.

  11. Entrance fee received via PayPal for multiple entries/categories is not permitted. Each song must be submitted as a sole and separate entry. Entrance fee is non-refundable. SDCMF is not responsible for late or faulty file uploads accompanying online entries.

  12. Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters. Employees of SDCMF, their families, subsidiaries, and affiliates are not eligible.

  13. Winners will be chosen by a select panel of judges comprised of accomplished singer-songwriters, recording artists and music professionals active in the Conscious Music movement.

  14. The "Rules and Regulations" and sponsorship prizes are subject to change at SDCMF's discretion. SDCMF reserves the right to make any final decision on the judging results should there be any problematic or unforeseen issues that arise.

  15. Songs will be judged based on melody, composition, originality and lyrics, which must reflect the spirit and purpose of Conscious Music. Lyrical content should contain a universal message that is either nondenominational, interfaith, or neutral.
